Value Delivered
Marelich Mechanical completed fast-track installation of mechanical and plumbing systems for the new Red Hawk Casino.
Our flexibility, while managing site challenges and ongoing design revisions, served to enable on-time project delivery.
Ultimately, our solutions helped provide a comfortable indoor environment for the client’s entertainment facility, within a tight schedule.
Client Objectives
The client needed complete HVAC and plumbing systems for their new three-story casino with a parking garage, located on a mountainside.
Solutions
Throughout this project, Marelich Mechanical adjusted to difficult conditions on an accelerated schedule with an immovable end date. To achieve this, our team worked 12-hour days, seven days a week, as well as night shifts.
While this resulted in 115,000 manhours, we incurred zero recordable injuries and zero lost time injuries, measurably facilitating on-schedule completion.
Our solutions overcame multiple challenges including ongoing revisions and site limitations. After construction began, six kitchens were revised. So, we worked with the engineer, owner, and general contractor on a design-assist basis, receiving drawing revisions in tandem with the design team, to help keep the project on track through changes.
The site’s mountainside location required our team to blast and haul away more than 100,000 cubic yards of granite rock before excavating further through rock to install over 6,000 feet of underground piping.
We were also challenged with no site staging area. The contract stipulated material could only be left on the floor 48 hours. To address this, we streamlined just-in-time design with just-in-time fabrication and delivery, to enable installation of approximately 500,000 pounds of ductwork in six weeks.
At the same time, Marelich Mechanical’s plumbing/piping shop kept the project on schedule by fabricating 100 percent of all plumbing components and loading them onto rolling carts in the proper sequence for installation.
To simplify the process, the shop team also attached the appropriate drawing to each component. This meant we could fabricate much of the project early, further contributing to on-time completion.
We detailed, coordinated, and installed all major HVAC and plumbing system components, including:
- Packaged rooftop units
- Split systems
- Variable air volume boxes
- Fan coil units
- Boilers
- Grease Interceptors
Finally, we provided controls installation and complete systems balancing.
